This timing reading this is strange because my friend (who is brown) was just in the UK countryside and he said he felt like everyone was staring at him there because he was the only POC in town. I honestly think it's all about perspective because as a WOC myself I don't get offended when people ask where I'm from but I also read context too and can tell when someone is being genuinely curious or offensive. Also David Attenborough being white has never put me off watching any of his documentaries! That is crazy!
